Turaki-Led PDP Inaugurates Abia Caretaker Committee

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has inaugurated a Caretaker Committee to manage the party’s affairs in Abia State.

The inauguration was carried out by the National Working Committee under Turaki’s leadership as part of efforts to reorganize the party structure in the state.

During the event, the PDP South East Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa, addressed party members and urged the new committee to remain firm despite ongoing challenges.

He stated that the party had been facing pressure from both within and outside its ranks for over a year. According to him, legal disputes over the party’s leadership are currently before the Court of Appeal, where related cases have been merged and judgment is being awaited.

Odefa described the newly appointed chairman of the Abia Caretaker Committee, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, as someone with the experience and strength needed to handle the responsibility.

He admitted that the assignment would not be easy but expressed belief that the committee could rebuild the party’s structure in the state.

In his acceptance speech, Emeka-Yellow said the role requires commitment and sacrifice. He acknowledged that the PDP in Abia had gone through a deep leadership crisis in recent years, which affected unity and weakened its foundation.

He stated that the main goal of the caretaker committee would be reconciliation and restoring confidence among members.

The move has, however, been rejected by another faction of the party in the state believed to be aligned with Nyesom Wike.

That group described the newly inaugurated caretaker committee as unlawful, further exposing the division within the Abia chapter of the PDP.

The development adds to the ongoing leadership struggle within the party as preparations gradually begin ahead of future elections.
