‘Enough of Court Battles,’ PDP Says as BoT Pushes for Unity

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday in Abuja urged members of the party to stop ongoing legal disputes and focus on unity ahead of future political activities.

The call was made during the 86th meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees, where party elders and leaders gathered to discuss internal issues and the way forward for the opposition party.

The meeting was chaired by the Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and attended by members of the party’s leadership, including the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed.

During the meeting, party leaders discussed recent developments affecting the party, including court decisions and preparations for upcoming political activities.

Mohammed told party leaders that the time had come for members to stop internal legal battles that have slowed down party activities in recent months. He explained that recent court decisions had clarified the situation within the party and that members should now focus on working together to strengthen the organisation.

According to him, continued legal disputes could disrupt the party’s preparation for future elections, including the 2027 general election. He urged party stakeholders, leaders and members across the country to unite and support the party’s leadership in order to move the organisation forward.

The Board of Trustees meeting also served as an opportunity for the party to review its recent internal processes. Ohuabunwa informed members that the party had already conducted ward and local government congresses across different parts of the country as part of efforts to reorganise its structure.

He said the exercises were carried out successfully in many areas and allowed party members at the grassroots level to take part in the internal democratic process of the party. According to him, the congresses helped to strengthen participation among members and maintain the party’s democratic tradition.

Ohuabunwa also announced that the next stage of the party’s internal activities would involve state congresses scheduled to take place in the coming days. These congresses are expected to further strengthen the party’s structure across the country and prepare it for upcoming political activities.

The party leadership also discussed preparations for the national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30. The convention is expected to provide an opportunity for the party to reorganise its leadership and continue efforts to rebuild unity among members.

During the meeting, party leaders also reviewed the recent decisions of the Court of Appeal regarding the leadership dispute within the PDP. According to Ohuabunwa, the court rulings confirmed the authority of the National Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

He explained that the party respects the decisions of the courts and will continue to manage its affairs in line with the law and the provisions of the party’s constitution. He also stated that the judgments had helped to provide clarity on the party’s leadership situation.

The meeting concluded with calls for unity among members and a renewed commitment to strengthen the party as it prepares for future political contests.

Party leaders present at the gathering agreed that cooperation and dialogue among members would be necessary to maintain stability within the organisation.
