On Friday in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, former Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu, announced his plan to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives. The declaration took place at the All Progressives Congress secretariat, where party members, leaders, and supporters gathered to witness the event.

Iyamu made known his intention to represent Oredo Federal Constituency, saying he has been actively involved in party activities for years. He pointed to his contributions to the party since 2016 and his role in past elections as proof of his connection with the grassroots. He also referred to his efforts in supporting party candidates and mobilising voters across the area.

He spoke about programmes he has carried out, especially those aimed at helping women and young people. According to him, he has sustained empowerment activities in different wards since 2019, including regular financial support for women in Ward 10. He also said he moved across communities during previous elections to campaign and strengthen support for the party.

Iyamu dismissed claims that he lacks local support, describing such allegations as politically driven. He maintained that he remains loyal to the party and has a good relationship with its leadership in the state.
At the event, the APC chairman in Oredo, Osamudiamen Osarenkhoe, called on party members to stay united. He described Iyamu as a committed member who respects party structure and leadership, and urged members to avoid internal conflicts as they prepare for future elections.
Several political figures attended the declaration, including former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Uyi Igbe, former lawmaker Patrick Obahiagbon, Valentine Asuen, and APC State Secretary Lawrence Okah, among others. The gathering showed support for Iyamu as he begins his bid for the legislative seat.
