2027: APC opens presidential ticket, backs Tinubu

The APC, through its Deputy National Organising Secretary, said the party will not shut its doors against aspirants who want to test their strength. He noted that allowing open competition is part of democratic practice within the party.

He also explained that sitting leaders often have an advantage if members are satisfied with their performance. According to him, this follows a common political idea where leaders who perform well are usually given the chance to seek another term.

The party added that this approach is not limited to the presidency alone but also applies to governors and other elected officials. It said performance plays a key role in deciding whether a candidate is presented again.

The official warned that keeping a poorly performing candidate could affect the party’s chances in an election. He said parties must be careful when choosing who represents them.


He also pointed out that the law allows elected officials, including the president, to seek a second term, and this cannot be taken away from any interested aspirant.


The APC is expected to meet again at its national convention in Abuja later in March, where more decisions about party matters ahead of 2027 will be discussed.
