PDP NEC approves zoning, confirms March convention plans

The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party held its 107th meeting in Abuja on Monday, March 23, 2026, where party leaders reviewed recent activities and made key decisions ahead of the next elections, with discussions focusing on internal structure, membership, and preparations for the upcoming national convention.

At the meeting, attended by top party officials, stakeholders, and leaders from across the country, the committee assessed the outcome of its ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses conducted nationwide in recent weeks.

The leadership accepted the reports from these exercises, noting that they were carried out peacefully and followed laid-down procedures, which helped maintain order within the party.

The committee also examined the ongoing electronic registration of members and expressed satisfaction with the level of progress recorded so far. Party leaders encouraged members in all states to take part in the process, as it is aimed at building a reliable and modern membership database that will support planning and internal coordination.

On the issue of party structure, the NEC confirmed the zoning arrangement for national elective positions. The decision, according to the meeting, is in line with the party’s approach to balance, fairness, and inclusion across different regions. This framework will guide the selection of leaders at the next national convention.

The committee further noted that the sale of nomination forms for the convention has already begun, with interested members expected to follow the approved guidelines and timelines set by the party.

As part of preparations, the NEC restated its readiness for the national convention scheduled to hold on March 29 and 30, 2026. It directed relevant committees and organs within the party to ensure proper coordination and smooth conduct of the event, which is expected to shape the party’s leadership and direction.

During the meeting, party leaders also called for unity, discipline, and loyalty among members, stressing the need to put the interest of the party above personal ambitions as it moves forward.

At the end of the session, the NEC expressed confidence in the party’s current state, noting that it is better positioned to move ahead with its plans and play a leading role in national politics.
