2027: Govt Trying to Block My Presidential Ambition – Peter Obi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns that the Federal Government is working to stop him from contesting in the 2027 presidential election. He made this known during a radio interview in Aba, where he spoke on political developments ahead of the next general elections.

Obi said the current administration, led by Bola Tinubu, is taking steps aimed at preventing him from emerging as a candidate under any political party.

He described himself as well prepared for leadership and claimed that his experience in governance and business places him in a strong position among those interested in the presidency.

He also criticised recent changes to the Electoral Law, stating that the removal of forgery as an offence raises concerns about the credibility of the electoral process. According to him, such changes could affect trust in elections and weaken accountability.

Obi further linked Nigeria’s current economic and leadership challenges to the need for experienced leadership, stating that the country requires someone with practical knowledge in management and administration.

The former Anambra State governor’s visit to Aba also attracted political figures, including Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and members of the African Democratic Congress, who were present during his engagement.

His comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to build across the country.
