Court to rule on bid to bar Kingibe from ADC today

The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver a ruling on Wednesday in a case seeking to stop Ireti Kingibe from taking part in activities of the African Democratic Congress following her alleged suspension.

The case was filed by members of the party’s Wuse Ward in Abuja, who claim the senator was suspended on March 10 over alleged misconduct and actions said to go against party rules. The decision, according to the plaintiffs, was approved by a large number of ward leaders.

The matter is before Justice Peter Odo Lifu, who fixed April 1 to decide whether to grant an interim order requested by the applicants. The plaintiffs want the court to prevent the senator from presenting herself as a member of the party or taking part in its meetings and activities until the main case is resolved.

They also asked the court to stop her from interfering with the affairs of the ward, including its records and administration. The suit was filed by two ward members on behalf of themselves and others, with the senator listed as the only defendant.

According to the claims presented in court, the suspension followed internal procedures outlined in the party’s constitution. The plaintiffs also alleged that despite being informed of the suspension, the senator continued to act as a party member, hold meetings, and make public statements linked to the party.

They further claimed that her actions have caused tension within the ward and affected its leadership structure. The court had earlier heard arguments from the applicants before fixing the date for its ruling.

The decision expected today will determine whether the restrictions sought against the senator will take effect while the case continues.
