Wike declares PDP crisis over, opens doors to returnees

On Friday in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party has ended and called on former members to return to the party.

He made this known during a media meeting where he spoke about the party’s internal issues and future plans. According to him, the disagreements that affected the party in recent times have settled, and attention is now on rebuilding and moving forward.

Wike explained that politics should not be treated as a permanent fight but as a process where differences can be resolved. He urged those who left the party due to past disputes to set aside their grievances and rejoin efforts to strengthen the PDP.

Speaking on the outcome of the party’s recent convention, he said it marked the end of the period of internal conflict. He added that the party is now open to welcoming back members who are ready to contribute to its growth and activities.

The minister also revealed that some former members have already shown interest in returning, noting that the political space is becoming more favourable for reconciliation within the party.

He further advised politicians seeking relevance to remain active and visible, stating that leadership positions are not enough without consistent effort and engagement. He warned that those who stay inactive may not be considered serious contenders in future elections.

The PDP has faced a leadership crisis since 2025, with different factions holding separate meetings and taking legal steps to control the party. This situation raised concerns about unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite this, Wike maintained that the party has moved past its challenges and is now focused on bringing members together and preparing for future political contests.
