2027 Race: Buhari’s Son Yusuf Declares for Reps seat

In Nigeria, on Monday, the son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf Buhari, announced his plan to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, seeking to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency in Katsina State under the All Progressives Congress.

The decision was made known by former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, who revealed that the move followed consultations with political stakeholders. The announcement indicates that Yusuf Buhari has begun steps toward entering active politics after his father’s time in office.

His father, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, passed away in July 2025, leaving behind a political legacy within the ruling party. Yusuf’s planned entry into the race is coming ahead of preparations for the next general elections, where different aspirants are already positioning themselves across constituencies.

The constituency he intends to represent covers Sandamu, Daura, and Mai’Adua areas of Katsina State, which are politically important in the region. His ambition is expected to draw attention within the party as members begin early alignments and consultations.
