The decision was made known by former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, who revealed that the move followed consultations with political stakeholders. The announcement indicates that Yusuf Buhari has begun steps toward entering active politics after his father’s time in office.

His father, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, passed away in July 2025, leaving behind a political legacy within the ruling party.
