Niger ADC Halts Congresses Indefinitely

The African Democratic Congress in Niger State on Wednesday suspended all planned congresses across the 25 local government areas of the state, as announced by the state chairman, Musa Hassan, in a statement, with the decision taking effect immediately and lasting until further notice.

The party leadership said the suspension was taken to follow legal procedures and respect constitutional provisions, as well as ongoing issues that require careful handling. The move is part of efforts to ensure that all party activities remain within the law and follow proper guidelines.

According to the chairman, party members, stakeholders, and local government leaders have been advised to remain calm and peaceful while the situation is being addressed. He also made it clear that any congress carried out by unauthorised groups or individuals should not be recognised.

The party warned the Independent National Electoral Commission not to accept or validate any actions taken outside the approved structure of the party in the state. It also stated that those claiming to act on behalf of the party without proper authority should be ignored by the public.

The leadership maintained that the current executive committee of the party in the state is still valid and recognised, and there has been no change to its status. It added that the suspension would remain in place while consultations and internal discussions continue at the national level.

Party members were urged to stay united and disciplined during this period, as the leadership works toward resolving the issues affecting the congresses. A new date for the exercise is expected to be announced once discussions are concluded and the situation becomes clearer.

The development comes amid ongoing internal adjustments within political parties across the country as preparations continue ahead of future elections.
