Oyo 2027: Alli, Folarin meet Tinubu over APC ticket

Two governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli and Teslim Folarin, recently met with Bola Tinubu in Lagos as part of efforts to secure the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 election. The meetings took place separately within the week and were linked to their ambitions to contest for the Oyo State governorship.

Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, has held several political positions in the past, including serving as a local government chairman and Secretary to the Oyo State Government. He also has ties to traditional leadership in Ibadanland.

Folarin, also a prominent figure in the state, previously served as Senate Leader and holds a recognised traditional title in Ibadan.

Sources within the party indicated that both aspirants sought the president’s backing and support as they prepare for the race. Their separate visits were seen as part of ongoing consultations within the party ahead of the primaries.

Alli later confirmed his meeting publicly, describing it as a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to leadership. He noted that the discussion strengthened his resolve and gave him a clearer direction as he continues his political journey.

Folarin also shared details of his meeting, describing it as a personal and meaningful discussion with the president. His message suggested a close political relationship and respect for Tinubu’s leadership.

The meetings come as political activities begin to gather pace ahead of the 2027 elections, with aspirants seeking support and building alliances within the ruling party. Both men are expected to continue consultations as the race for the party’s ticket develops in Oyo State.
