The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Osun State, Najeem Folasayo Salaam, on Saturday in Osogbo said the party chose a female running mate to improve inclusion and widen participation as it prepares for the August 15 election.

Salaam made this known during the party’s state congress, where delegates from all 30 local government areas gathered under heavy security presence. Officers of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services were stationed at the venue to maintain order throughout the exercise.

He explained that the selection of Yemisi Agiri as his running mate was part of a plan to build a government that reflects different groups in the state. He added that if elected, his administration would focus on development that reaches all parts of Osun and gives room for broader representation in decision-making.

During the same event, the party also elected new state executives through a consensus process supervised by the chairman of the congress committee, Mudashiru Akinlabi. Issa Adesiji emerged as the state chairman, while Lani Baderinwa became the secretary. Other positions were filled, including treasurer, women leader, youth leader, and publicity secretary.
In his acceptance speech, Adesiji called on party members and leaders to work together and prepare fully for the coming governorship election. He said the party must move quickly from its current position and focus on winning the poll. He also urged supporters to unite behind the new leadership and contribute to the party’s success at the election.
The congress marked a key step in the party’s preparation for the Osun governorship race, as leaders and members expressed readiness to strengthen their structure ahead of the poll.
