On Monday in Nasarawa State, members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress gathered in large numbers in Lafia to show support for the governorship ambition of Ahmed Aliyu Wadada ahead of the 2027 election, as party stakeholders publicly backed his bid and called for unity within the party.
The rally, which took place across key parts of Lafia, saw supporters march to the party’s state secretariat and later to the Government House, demonstrating their backing for the senator, who currently represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The group behind the rally, known as the Wadada Ambassadors and led by Zaidu Aliyu Tanko, said their support was based on the senator’s experience, leadership ability, and plans for the development of the state. They also appealed to party leaders to consider his aspiration, stating that he has the capacity to continue and build on ongoing progress in the state.
The group further revealed that it had submitted a formal recommendation to the party leadership, presenting Wadada as a strong and qualified aspirant capable of leading Nasarawa forward. Supporters at the rally also called on others across the state to unite behind his ambition in preparation for the 2027 governorship race.
Receiving the supporters, the state chairman of the APC, Aliyu Bello, urged them to remain peaceful and avoid attacking other aspirants. He stressed the need for unity within the party, noting that cooperation among members would be key to retaining power in the state beyond 2027.
He also pointed to ongoing development projects under Governor Abdullahi Sule, stating that the party remains focused on sustaining growth in the state. According to him, all members should be ready to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, in order to maintain stability and progress.
Wadada’s growing support, especially across the state’s local government areas, has been linked to his contributions in areas such as infrastructure, education, and youth development, as well as his continued engagement with communities across Nasarawa.
