The Saudi Arabia has moved to build a working relationship with Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory on security, economic growth, and green city projects, as its ambassador Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi met with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Tuesday to discuss areas of cooperation.

During the visit in Abuja, the ambassador praised ongoing developments in the capital and described the city as progressing into a green urban centre. He expressed interest in building closer ties between the FCT and major Saudi cities, including Riyadh, with a focus on sharing ideas and working together on urban planning and other sectors.

He also pointed to the need for stronger links in areas that would benefit both sides, such as safety, investment, and city development, while noting the long-standing relationship between both countries.

In his response, Wike welcomed the move and said the FCT administration is open to partnerships that can support growth and development in the territory. He noted that Nigeria already has a good relationship with Saudi Arabia and said the capital would build on that to create new opportunities.
The minister added that the FCT is ready to engage with Saudi authorities and explore areas where both sides can learn from each other, especially in city management and infrastructure development. He also linked the recent changes in Abuja to the policies of President Bola Tinubu, stating that ongoing efforts are aimed at making the capital more modern and globally competitive.
He said the administration is still working towards its goals but remains focused on improving the city and placing it among leading capitals around the world through continued development and cooperation.
