Tinubu sacks Edun, Dangiwa in cabinet reshuffle

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday approved changes to his cabinet, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, as part of a reshuffle aimed at improving government operations.

The decision was made public through a statement issued in Abuja by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and communicated by his media aide. The statement explained that the changes are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination and improve service delivery across key sectors.

Following the development, Taiwo Oyedele was named the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. In the same move, Dr. Muttaqha Darma was announced as the incoming Minister for Housing and Urban Development.

The directive from the government requires the outgoing ministers to hand over their duties to the newly appointed officials or supervising authorities. All transition processes are expected to be completed on or before April 23, 2026.

The reshuffle was carried out under the president’s constitutional powers, with the aim of improving teamwork within the cabinet and achieving better results in managing the economy and other sectors.

The government also noted that changes within the cabinet may continue as part of efforts to refresh leadership and maintain performance.

The presidency acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing ministers and wished them well in their future engagements, noting that the adjustments are part of a broader plan to strengthen governance and align with the administration’s policy direction.
