The All Progressives Congress in Gombe State on Sunday announced Dr Jamilu-Isiyaku Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election during a stakeholders’ meeting led by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, following consultations among party leaders across the state.
The decision was reached at an expanded meeting attended by key members of the party, where leaders agreed on Gwamna as the preferred candidate to represent the party in the next governorship race. The process, according to party officials, followed discussions held across different levels of the party structure.
Governor Yahaya, who played a leading role at the meeting, described the outcome as a sign of unity within the party and a step toward maintaining its political direction in the state. He said the choice of Gwamna came after agreement among stakeholders who considered his experience and political reach.
Gwamna, who accepted the nomination, expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members for the support given to him. He assured that he would continue the work of the current administration and focus on further development of the state if elected.
At the same meeting, the party also approved consensus candidates for other positions, including the Senate, House of Representatives, and the State House of Assembly. Governor Yahaya was selected as the senatorial candidate for Gombe North, while Ahmed Deba was chosen for Gombe Central and Jerry Damara for Gombe South.
The development sets the stage for the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, as it begins to position its candidates early while internal discussions continue in other political parties across the country.
