The decision was made by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress as part of preparations for its upcoming primary election. According to the party, Tinubu is already considered qualified based on earlier screening carried out before the 2022 presidential primaries.

The committee explained that the president’s position as the current leader of the party and the country played a role in the decision, noting that repeating the screening process would not be necessary at this stage. It also referred to the support he has received from different groups within the party, including governors, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs.

The party recalled that endorsements and votes of confidence had already been given to Tinubu during past party gatherings, including a national summit held in 2025, where key stakeholders backed his leadership.

The APC maintained that its action followed its internal rules and constitution, stating that Tinubu had already met the required conditions to take part in the primary election.

The decision means he will proceed in the process without appearing before a screening panel again, as the party continues its early moves toward the 2027 general elections.
