Tinubu Appoints Ex-Military Officer Fadewa as Homeland Security Adviser

On Monday in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security as part of efforts to improve coordination among security agencies and strengthen the country’s response to rising security threats.

The appointment was announced through a government circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and released by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Kana.

The Presidency said the new office was created to improve intelligence sharing, support security operations, and strengthen cooperation among agencies responsible for protecting the country.
Fadewa is a retired military officer with more than three decades of experience in intelligence and security operations.

During his years in service, he worked closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser and was involved in intelligence coordination between major security agencies.

He also played a role in the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, a platform created to allow agencies such as the police, intelligence services, and the armed forces to work together more effectively in handling national threats.

After leaving the military, Fadewa continued his work in security research and policy discussions at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja. He also wrote a publication on policing and national security in Nigeria, focusing on cooperation between civilian institutions and security agencies.

The Federal Government said the appointment comes at a time when Nigeria continues to face challenges such as terrorism, kidnapping, bandit attacks, and other violent crimes across different parts of the country. The Presidency expressed confidence that Fadewa’s experience would support the administration’s efforts to improve homeland security management and strengthen preventive measures against security threats nationwide.

The new position is also believed to be the first of its kind in Nigeria’s government structure, showing a fresh approach toward handling internal security coordination.
