Wike Defends Visit to APC Chair, Says Politics Shouldn’t Breed Enmity

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, reacted to criticism surrounding his recent visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

The minister spoke during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Karu, Apo-Karshi and Kubwa, where he said the visit was based on personal and professional ties rather than political plans.Wike explained that his relationship with the APC chairman did not begin recently, noting that they had worked together in government before Yilwatda became the national chairman of the ruling party.

He said political party differences should not stop people from maintaining friendships or meeting privately.The FCT minister dismissed suggestions that the visit carried hidden political meaning. According to him, people are free to associate with anyone regardless of political affiliation, and private visits should not become matters for public controversy.

He also explained that the APC chairman had tried several times to meet him officially at his office without success because of his tight schedule. As a result, Wike decided to visit him personally at his residence to continue their discussion instead of making the matter public.

While speaking with reporters, the minister maintained that he had no duty to release details about his private meetings or social activities. He said he remained focused on carrying out projects across the Federal Capital Territory and meeting the expectations of the administration he serves.

Wike added that public opinion about his personal relationships does not affect his commitment to work. He said his attention remains on project delivery and service to residents rather than political speculation surrounding his interactions with members of other political parties.
