Former Attorney-General of the Federation and former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general election after receiving the backing of party leaders and stakeholders across the state.

The announcement was made on Sunday through a statement issued by Mohammed Bello Doka, who serves as Malami’s Special Assistant on Media. According to the statement, the decision followed a series of consultations involving party officials, supporters and political stakeholders as preparations for the next election cycle continue.

Malami’s emergence places him in the race to contest for Kebbi State’s top office in 2027 under the ADC platform. The former justice minister acknowledged the support he received from party members and supporters and expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him ahead of the election.

The party also unveiled candidates selected for other positions in the state. Retired Major General Aminu Bande was named for the Kebbi Central Senatorial District, while retired Deputy Comptroller General Ibrahim Muhammad Mera secured endorsement for Kebbi North Senatorial District. Garba Danjuma Limi also emerged as the party’s choice for Kebbi South Senatorial District.
According to the statement, the ADC remains focused on policies centred on governance, justice, security and long-term development in Kebbi State and across Nigeria as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
Malami, who previously served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to challenge the current governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress, in the governorship election.
