PDP Confirms Lamido for Jigawa 2027 Governorship Race

The Peoples Democratic Party has confirmed Mustapha Sule Lamido as its governorship candidate for Jigawa State ahead of the 2027 general election, following a consensus process conducted by the party in the state.

The affirmation took place during the party’s governorship primary, where Lamido emerged as the sole candidate. The exercise was supervised by members of the party’s election committee and observed by security personnel as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Chairman of the primary election committee, Isah Ahmad, announced the outcome and said the process followed the party’s internal rules and existing legal provisions guiding candidate selection. He also praised party leaders and members in Jigawa for maintaining unity throughout the exercise.

With his confirmation secured, Lamido accepted the nomination and thanked party stakeholders and supporters for giving him another opportunity to contest for the state’s top seat in the next election cycle.

He outlined areas his campaign intends to focus on if elected, including economic development, support for young people, reforms in education, and improvement of healthcare services across the state.

Lamido said his political agenda remains focused on rebuilding the state through policies aimed at strengthening institutions, encouraging social progress, promoting responsible leadership, and creating a more inclusive system of governance.

He also stated that many of the concerns raised during his previous governorship campaign remain unresolved, pointing to continued economic pressure and governance challenges affecting residents of the state.

The PDP candidate expressed concern about conditions in key sectors, including education and healthcare, while also referring to the growing hardship being experienced by many citizens.

With the party now settling on a single candidate, attention is expected to shift toward preparations for the 2027 governorship election and the emerging political contest in Jigawa State.
