Bamidele Targets 10m South-West Votes for Tinubu

The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, on Monday in Abuja declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027 and promised to mobilise at least 10 million votes from the South-West region. The pledge came after Tinubu emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress following the party’s primary election.

According to Bamidele, preparations to achieve that target have already begun as the party moves into the next phase of political activities ahead of the general election.

Bamidele congratulated Tinubu on securing the APC ticket after the nationwide primary held on Saturday. The exercise ended with Tinubu recording a large margin over his only challenger, Stanley Osifo. The Senate Leader said the outcome reflected confidence in the President’s leadership and expressed belief that the ruling party would retain power in the next election cycle.

He stated that his commitment to delivering votes from the South-West was tied to his role within the National Assembly and his support for the administration’s programmes. He added that the party structure in the region would continue to work towards ensuring a strong performance at the polls.

Speaking further, Bamidele linked Tinubu’s candidacy to ongoing government policies and reforms, saying the administration had continued to pursue projects and programmes aimed at improving different sectors of the country. He maintained that the President took office during a difficult economic period and chose to implement policies intended to reposition the economy for long-term growth.

The Senate Leader pointed to developments in infrastructure as part of the administration’s record. He referenced ongoing road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, which he said were expected to improve movement, support trade and strengthen economic activities across different regions.

He also spoke on developments in the education sector through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund initiative, noting that many students had enrolled for support under the programme while funds had been released to beneficiaries in tertiary institutions.

On the economy, Bamidele stated that oil production had increased in recent years and also referred to growth in Nigeria’s foreign reserves. He added that economic growth figures had recorded steady movement over the past three years.

According to him, the administration’s policies and projects have created confidence within the party ahead of the 2027 election, with supporters expecting continuity in governance if Tinubu secures another term in office.
