On Friday, May 30, 2026, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, warned state governors against getting involved in the political affairs of Rivers State during a political meeting that brought together members of both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike said that any governor from outside Rivers State who tries to influence or disrupt the political process in the state could face serious problems. He made the remarks while addressing participants at a gathering linked to a political coalition in the state.

He recalled earlier comments he had made about outside interference and insisted that his position had not changed. He said people who attempt to bring political trouble into Rivers State should be careful, adding that such actions could lead to consequences.

The minister also spoke about political tensions in different parts of the country, saying that while other states were dealing with internal disputes, Rivers State was focused on unity and progress. He said outsiders should avoid actions that could disturb the state’s political environment.
Wike added that Rivers people are peaceful but will react when provoked, and he advised political actors to stay away from activities that could cause conflict in the state.
