CSOs, Youth Groups Protest in Lagos Over Insecurity, Rising Hardship

A broad coalition of civil society groups, labour unions, youth organisations, community associations and faith-based bodies took to the streets of Lagos on Friday to protest what they described as worsening economic hardship and increasing insecurity across Nigeria.

The demonstrators assembled at Ikeja Under Bridge, where they voiced concerns over the difficulties many Nigerians are facing as prices of goods and services continue to rise. They also expressed worries about the growing security challenges affecting different parts of the country.

Participants said the protest was organised to draw attention to the struggles of ordinary citizens who are battling inflation, unemployment and declining purchasing power. According to them, many households and businesses are finding it difficult to cope with the current economic situation.

The protesters carried various placards with messages calling for an end to hunger, improved security, better wages for workers and the release of people being held by kidnappers and criminal groups. Some of the inscriptions also criticised government policies and demanded immediate action to improve the welfare of citizens.

During the demonstration, members of the coalition called on the Federal Government and other authorities to introduce measures that would reduce the burden on Nigerians. They urged leaders at all levels to focus more on improving security, creating jobs and implementing policies that would ease the financial pressure on families.

The protesters maintained that citizens deserve a safer environment and better living conditions. They argued that addressing insecurity and economic difficulties should remain a priority for government officials.

The demonstration comes at a time when public concern is growing over the rising cost of living and continued reports of insecurity in several parts of the country.

Many Nigerians have repeatedly called for stronger efforts to tackle these challenges and improve the quality of life for citizens.
