Wike Camp Courts Bode George Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has called on party elder Chief Bode George and other members outside its leadership camp to reunite with the party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace.

The appeal was made on Sunday in Lagos by the faction’s State Organising Secretary, Hakeem Olalemi, during a discussion on the party’s future and efforts to strengthen its position ahead of the next election cycle.

Olalemi described George as one of the PDP’s most respected figures, noting that his years of service and contributions to the party remain valuable despite disagreements arising from the ongoing leadership crisis at the national level.

George is currently associated with the National Working Committee led by Dr Kabiru Turaki, a group supported by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

According to Olalemi, the PDP still regards George as an important member whose experience can help move the party forward. He said the party remains open to reconciliation and believes there is a place for every member willing to contribute to its growth and success.

He stated that the PDP has always relied on dialogue and unity to resolve internal disputes, adding that efforts are ongoing to bring together members from different camps. He said the focus should now be on rebuilding the party and preparing it for future political contests rather than dwelling on past disagreements.

Olalemi also urged party leaders and stakeholders to support the National Working Committee headed by Alhaji Abdurahman Mohammed, which his faction recognises as the legitimate leadership of the party. He maintained that cooperation among members would help strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on opposition politics in Lagos State, Olalemi dismissed concerns about the rise of alternative political platforms. He argued that the PDP remains the leading opposition force in the state and possesses a stronger political structure, broader experience and deeper grassroots presence than other opposition groups.

He said the party had already begun reorganising its structures across wards, local governments and zones in Lagos. According to him, party members are actively mobilising support and expanding their reach in preparation for future elections.

Olalemi expressed confidence that the PDP would provide strong competition to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 polls. He added that the party is working to strengthen its machinery and improve coordination across the state.

He further predicted that many politicians who left the PDP would eventually return, arguing that the party’s long-standing structure and nationwide presence continue to make it attractive to political actors seeking a stable platform.

The PDP chieftain said the party remains committed to reconciliation and growth, expressing optimism that unity among members would place it in a stronger position ahead of the next general election.
