Kwankwaso, Dickson Meet to Strengthen NDC Ahead of 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has met with the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso disclosed the meeting on Sunday through his verified X account, explaining that the visit formed part of consultations aimed at building a more united and prepared party for the next election cycle. He said the leadership remained focused on improving the party’s structure despite the recent legal setback involving its registration.

He also said the NDC would continue to pursue its objectives through lawful means and maintained confidence in the judicial process. According to him, the party remains committed to democratic values and believes its vision cannot be derailed by temporary challenges. He urged members and supporters to remain calm and continue supporting the party’s goals.

Dickson also confirmed the meeting in a post on his official Facebook page, stating that both leaders discussed matters affecting the party and its future. He said the NDC leadership had resolved to continue defending Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system while taking legal steps to address the recent Federal High Court ruling.

The former Bayelsa State governor explained that the party was already working on measures to challenge the judgment and expressed confidence that the issues raised by the court would be resolved through the legal process.

The meeting followed a Federal High Court ruling in Lokoja, Kogi State, which set aside its earlier judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party. Justice Isah Dashen ruled that the earlier decision was defective because all interested parties were not included in the case before judgment was delivered.

The ruling came after the Peace Movement Party argued that it had a legal interest in the matter and should have been joined in the suit before the court reached its earlier decision.
