Tinubu inaugurates Karu roads, says project will boost economy

President Bola Tinubu on Monday inaugurated the rehabilitated and expanded Karu township roads in the Federal Capital Territory, saying the project is designed to improve economic activities, ease movement and improve the quality of life for residents living in satellite towns around Abuja.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the president at the inauguration in Abuja, said the road project reflects the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He explained that the government decided to focus on areas where many Nigerians live and work, noting that development should not be limited to the city centre.

Tinubu said the Karu corridor had for many years been affected by heavy traffic, causing delays and reducing productivity for commuters and businesses. According to him, the expansion and rehabilitation of the roads have reduced travel time, eased traffic congestion and created better conditions for businesses to grow in the area.

The president also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for overseeing the rapid execution of infrastructure projects across Abuja. He said the visible changes in the capital are the result of focused leadership and the implementation of the administration’s urban renewal plans. He added that improving roads in satellite communities shows the government’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches people across all parts of the FCT.

Tinubu also commended Abdul-Val Constructions Limited, the Nigerian company that handled the project. He said the contractor delivered quality work on schedule and proved that local firms have the ability to execute major infrastructure projects that meet international standards.

Speaking at the event, Wike said the road project has transformed the Karu area and called on residents to recognise the government’s efforts to improve their daily lives. He said the benefits of the project are available to everyone, regardless of political affiliation, because all road users now enjoy easier movement.

The minister assured residents that more infrastructure projects would be delivered in communities and districts across the FCT. He also praised Abdul-Val Constructions Limited for remaining committed to the project even during periods when payments had not yet been made, describing the company’s dedication as a demonstration of confidence in the Tinubu administration.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, explained that the project, awarded in August 2025, covers the road linking the Karu Interchange on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to the Customs Clinic Junction. Other roads completed under the project include the DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road and the Old CBN Quarters Road within Karu.

Zulkiflu said the completed roads would improve access within the area, ensure smoother traffic flow, provide a better drainage system and strengthen the security of residents and their property.

He added that Karu remains one of the most populated satellite towns in the FCT and that the new road network now allows motorists to reach Abuja city centre in less than ten minutes.
