Wike Hails Local Contractor, Says Nigerian Firms Can Match Foreign Companies

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike on Monday praised a Nigerian construction company for successfully completing the Karu road project in Abuja, saying indigenous contractors have shown they can deliver projects that meet the same standards as foreign firms when given the opportunity.

Wike spoke during the inauguration of the newly completed road project, which was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu through Vice President Kashim Shettima. He explained that he had initially been reluctant to award the contract to a local company because of previous experiences with some indigenous contractors who failed to complete projects after receiving mobilisation funds.

According to the minister, Abdul-Val Constructions Limited approached him and requested an opportunity to prove its ability. He said the FCT Administration first entrusted the company with the construction of the War College-Ushafa Road, which was completed and commissioned last year. The successful delivery of that project convinced the administration that the company had the capacity to handle larger assignments.

Wike said the contractor maintained work on the Karu project even during periods when payments had not yet been made. He noted that the company remained committed to completing the work because it believed the government would fulfil its financial obligations. He described such confidence and dedication as uncommon and worthy of recognition.

The minister added that the company completed both the road and its drainage system in time for the projects scheduled for inauguration during activities marking President Tinubu’s third year in office. He said the successful delivery has strengthened his confidence in the ability of Nigerian construction companies to handle major infrastructure projects.

Wike also disclosed that President Tinubu approved the construction of all roads within Karu Town. He said the administration has fulfilled its promise by completing roads requested by residents, including the EFCC Road, DSS Road, Hospital Road and other connecting routes within the community.

According to him, the completed projects have transformed the appearance of Karu and improved movement within the area. He said quality infrastructure benefits every resident regardless of political affiliation and should be appreciated by all.

The minister thanked President Tinubu for supporting the FCT Administration’s infrastructure programme, noting that the President devoted several days to inaugurating projects across the Federal Capital Territory. He added that the completed roads in Karu, together with improvements along the Nyanya-Mararaba corridor, will ease traffic congestion and improve the daily lives of residents.

Wike assured residents that development would continue across every district and community in the FCT. He expressed confidence that ongoing infrastructure projects under the Tinubu administration would bring lasting benefits to people living in different parts of Abuja.
