The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that nine registered political parties have collected access codes needed to upload the details of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. Haruna explained that the commission does not deliver the access codes to political party offices. Instead, each party is expected to send a representative to collect the code from INEC. He added that anyone picking up the code on behalf of a political party must present a valid letter of authorisation issued by the party leadership.

The national commissioner also reminded political parties that INEC had already released the guidelines for candidate nominations and trained party officials on how to complete the process. He urged political parties to follow the rules carefully while submitting the names and details of their candidates.

Haruna warned parties against waiting until the final day before uploading their candidates. According to him, although the commission has extended the submission deadline on the closing date until midnight to give parties more time, any delay caused by late submission would be the responsibility of the affected political party.

Under INEC’s timetable for the 2027 elections, political parties are expected to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates between June 27 and July 11 through the commission’s online portal. The timetable also provides that nomination forms for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates will be submitted between July 18 and August 8.

The commission said it expects all participating political parties to complete the process within the approved timetable as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
