NYSC Reforms: FG Replaces Khaki Uniform With Adire

The Federal Government has announced plans to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) khaki uniform with Adire fabric as part of ongoing reforms aimed at promoting local production and supporting Nigeria’s economy.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

According to the minister, the decision forms part of the government’s efforts to ensure that public funds are spent on goods produced within the country. He explained that Adire is already produced in several states, including Ogun and Kwara, while Nigeria also has textile industries capable of meeting the demand for the new uniforms.

He said the new policy is expected to create more opportunities for local manufacturers and textile producers by increasing demand for Nigerian-made fabrics. The government believes the change will also help strengthen the country’s textile industry and support artisans involved in the production of Adire.

Olawande also disclosed that the reforms go beyond the change in uniforms. He revealed that the Federal Government is reviewing the NYSC deployment process to ensure that corps members are posted to places that match their academic qualifications and professional skills.

The minister said the reforms are designed to make the scheme more beneficial to both corps members and the country by improving workforce placement while also encouraging the use of locally made products.

He added that the government remains committed to introducing changes that will improve the NYSC programme and increase its contribution to national development.
