The All Progressives Grand Alliance has adopted President Bola Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, explaining that the decision is the reason it did not submit a presidential candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The party made this known on Wednesday through its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara. He explained that the absence of APGA’s presidential candidate on INEC’s nomination portal should not be viewed as a breach of electoral rules or a failure to meet the commission’s requirements.

According to Opara, the decision to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term followed consultations within the party. He said the National Executive Committee reached the conclusion after considering what it believed would best serve the country’s interest.

He stated that APGA remains fully involved in the 2027 electoral process despite choosing not to present a presidential candidate. The party, he said, has already completed the nomination process for other elective positions and successfully uploaded the names of its candidates for the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly elections on the INEC portal.

Opara explained that the party deliberately left the presidential slot vacant because its leadership had already agreed to support Tinubu’s re-election campaign. He maintained that the decision reflected the official position of the party and not a failure to participate in the election.

He added that APGA would continue to take part in other aspects of the 2027 elections while backing President Tinubu for the country’s highest office.
