2027: Kwankwaso confirms written one-term pact with Obi

Kwankwaso said he has confidence that Obi will keep his promise to leave office after one term if elected president. He said there is no reason to believe the former Anambra State governor would abandon the agreement because it was reached in good faith and formally documented.

He revealed that two separate agreements were signed. One was between the party and its candidates, while the second was signed personally by him and Obi.

According to him, both documents clearly state that the presidency would return to the North after a single four-year administration running from 2027 to 2031.

Kwankwaso explained that accepting the vice-presidential position was based on the belief that the South should complete another four-year term before power shifts back to the North. He said the arrangement reflects what the party considers a fair political balance capable of promoting national unity.

Speaking on his own political future, Kwankwaso said the party is focused on winning the 2027 election but also has medium- and long-term plans for the country. He noted that discussions about future ambitions would come at the appropriate time.

Peter Obi had earlier announced that he would serve only one term if elected president, saying his decision was aimed at promoting stability and ensuring a smooth power transition after four years.
