2027: NDC, Obidients Fire Back at Ganduje Over Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Obidient Movement have rejected claims by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, that the proposed Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket lacks the political strength to win the 2027 general election.

Both groups said on Wednesday that the two politicians have solid records in public office and enjoy strong support across different parts of the country.

The reaction followed Ganduje’s remarks that the NDC ticket would fail in the next presidential election because, according to him, Obi and Kwankwaso do not possess the political legacy needed to secure victory. He also questioned their influence in Kano State and their achievements while serving as governors.

Responding to the comments, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Abdulmumin Abdulsalam, dismissed Ganduje’s position, arguing that the former APC chairman no longer commands the political influence he once had in Kano State.

He maintained that the NDC is confident of performing strongly in Kano whenever elections are held, stating that the party has built a solid political structure capable of competing at every level. He added that Kwankwaso remains one of the most influential politicians in the state and that his political reach would strengthen the party’s chances.

Abdulsalam also pointed to Kwankwaso’s political history, noting that Ganduje once served under him as deputy governor before later becoming governor. He argued that Kwankwaso’s long-standing political experience and support base place him in a stronger position.

The NDC spokesman also said Peter Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election showed that he enjoys support beyond his home region. He expressed confidence that the former Anambra State governor would attract even more votes in 2027 because of the country’s current political and economic situation.

The Obidient Movement also dismissed Ganduje’s remarks. Its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said the former APC chairman was not in a position to question the records of Obi and Kwankwaso.

Tanko said Obi left behind strong financial records while serving as governor of Anambra State and described him as a leader known for prudent management of public resources. He also praised Kwankwaso for projects executed during his administration in Kano, including infrastructure development and education programmes that supported many students.

According to him, both politicians have visible achievements that continue to earn them public support. He argued that attempts to question their records would not change the confidence many Nigerians have in them.

The exchange adds to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 general election as parties and political figures continue to defend their positions while preparing for the contest.
