The All Progressives Congress has scheduled Saturday, August 22, 2026, for its primary elections to choose candidates for restored State House of Assembly seats in Delta and Kogi states as well as legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.
The party announced the date in its timetable for the electoral activities released on Wednesday and signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu.
The exercise became necessary after the Independent National Electoral Commission restored four State House of Assembly constituencies that had previously been left without representation in Delta and Kogi states.
In Delta State, the restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II is the affected constituency in Kogi State.
The APC will also conduct primaries to select candidates for legislative bye-elections in several constituencies across four states. They include Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi, Udu State Constituency in Delta and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.
According to the party’s schedule, aspirants began obtaining forms on Tuesday, August 18, with the sale of forms expected to close on Thursday, August 20. Completed forms and required documents must also be submitted by August 20.
The screening of aspirants, release of screening results and consideration of appeals from those who may be dissatisfied with the outcome will take place on Friday, August 21.
The main primaries will then be held on Saturday, August 22, while appeals arising from the elections have been fixed for Monday, August 24.
The party has set the expression of interest fee for State House of Assembly aspirants at N1 million, while the nomination fee is N5 million, making the total cost N6 million.
For House of Representatives aspirants, the expression of interest form costs N1 million, while the nomination form is N9 million, bringing the total to N10 million.
The APC also provided concessions for female aspirants, youths and persons living with disabilities. They are required to pay the full expression of interest fee but only half of the approved nomination fee for their respective positions.
The party directed all aspirants to make their payments directly into its designated bank account.
The primary elections follow INEC’s decision to restore the four previously suppressed constituencies in Delta and Kogi after relevant court judgments.
The affected constituencies had remained without direct representation in their respective State Houses of Assembly for several years.
The APC’s timetable also covers the legislative bye-elections expected in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states. The Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency is among the areas affected, following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, Tongo Yaya.
The outcome of the APC primaries will determine the party’s candidates for the affected seats ahead of the scheduled legislative elections.
