Dr Ideyi Prince Gamax has emerged as the African Democratic Congress candidate for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections after winning the party’s fresh substitution primary held in Ebonyi State.
Gamax was the only aspirant in the exercise and secured 450 votes from party members who participated in the primary.
The result was announced by the ADC Returning Officer and Deputy State Chairman, Dr Victor Uduma, who said delegates and members from the Ebonyi South Senatorial District took part in the exercise.
The fresh primary was conducted on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the ADC state secretariat in Ebonyi State.
Gamax had previously emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate during an earlier primary held on April 22, 2026. However, the party later conducted another exercise as part of its internal administrative process.
The candidate said the latest primary followed changes to the party’s earlier nomination process and was carried out to complete the required procedure for his candidacy.
Following his emergence, Gamax expressed confidence in the chances of the ADC in the 2027 senatorial election. He said his consultations across Ebonyi South had shown that many residents were seeking a different approach to political representation.
He said the people of the senatorial district were looking towards the ADC for a new direction and better representation. He also promised that the party would focus on issues that affect residents and work towards improving their access to the benefits of government.
The ADC state chairman, Dr Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, described the primary as peaceful. She said security agencies, journalists and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were present to observe the exercise.
Adibe-Nwafor explained that the substitution primary was organised after changes were made to the party’s earlier process. According to her, the national leadership instructed the state chapter to conduct a new exercise to produce the party’s recognised candidate.
She said the result of the August 20 primary would be sent to the national leadership of the party for further action.
The state chairman also rejected reports that another ADC senatorial primary was taking place elsewhere in the state. She said she was not aware of any parallel exercise and maintained that the primary conducted at the party secretariat was the one recognised by the state chapter.
The development comes as political parties across Nigeria intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections by selecting candidates and strengthening their structures ahead of the polls.
The ADC is also preparing to participate in the Ebonyi State local government elections scheduled for August 22, 2026.
The party leadership expressed optimism that its candidates would perform well in the local government elections as it continues to expand its political activities in the state.
