The Oyo State Government has congratulated the state Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, following his election as President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria.
The congratulatory message was delivered on Sunday by the Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, through a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, in Ibadan.
Lawal described Olabiyi-Agoro’s new position as a welcome development for PENGASSAN and the wider labour movement. He said the union leader’s experience and knowledge of labour matters would help him handle the responsibilities of his new office.
The Acting Governor also praised Olabiyi-Agoro for representing Oyo State well through his activities in the labour movement. He noted that the new PENGASSAN president had continued to contribute to issues affecting workers and had built a reputation within the state’s labour community.
Lawal said the state government was pleased that a labour leader who had worked with the Makinde administration on matters relating to workers’ welfare had been chosen to lead one of the country’s major trade unions.
He added that Olabiyi-Agoro’s new role was another achievement for Oyo State and wished him success as he begins his tenure as PENGASSAN president.
The Acting Governor also assured that the Oyo State Government would continue to maintain a good working relationship with labour unions and their leaders.
According to him, continued cooperation between government and organised labour remains important to improving workers’ welfare and promoting good governance across the state.
Olabiyi-Agoro’s emergence comes at a time when issues such as workers’ welfare, employment conditions and the rights of employees in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector remain major concerns for labour unions.
His new position will place him at the head of PENGASSAN, an association representing senior workers in Nigeria’s petroleum and natural gas industry.
