2027: Makinde Says Presidential Ambition Goes Beyond his Region

Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has said his ambition to become Nigeria’s president in 2027 is not limited to the South-West or any other region. He made this known on Saturday in Eruwa, Oyo State, after he and his wife, Tamunominini, received traditional titles from the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola.

Makinde said he would take his campaign across the country as he seeks support for his presidential bid. He plans to engage Nigerians in different states and explain his ideas on good governance, economic development and better leadership.

The governor said the political changes taking place ahead of the 2027 general elections would require him to reach out to voters beyond his home region. He is expected to use the APM platform to build support and present his plans to Nigerians in various parts of the country.

The traditional ceremony took place at the newly commissioned palace of the Eleruwa of Eruwa and attracted traditional rulers, politicians, government officials and other guests. Among those present was the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin.

Makinde and his wife were honoured with the titles of Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland and Yeye-Aare Asoludero respectively. The governor expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler and residents of Ibarapaland for the recognition.

He said the titles had placed a greater responsibility on him and would further encourage him to contribute to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria.

Makinde also called on traditional rulers across Oyo State to remain neutral in political matters. He urged monarchs to give all political parties and candidates equal treatment during the election season.

The governor warned that traditional rulers who actively take sides in political affairs could be viewed as politicians and treated accordingly.

Speaking at the event, Ogundoyin praised the Makinde administration for road projects carried out in Ibarapaland. He said lawmakers in the state would continue to support programmes aimed at improving the lives of residents.

The Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, Kazeem Owolabi, also commended the governor for the development projects recorded in the area. He expressed confidence that residents of Ibarapaland would continue to support the administration.

Makinde’s declaration of a nationwide campaign comes as political parties and presidential hopefuls intensify preparations for the 2027 election. His decision to contest under the APM places him among the growing number of politicians seeking the presidency ahead of the poll.

The governor is expected to face the challenge of building a strong political structure outside Oyo State and the South-West as he seeks to turn his presidential ambition into a nationwide campaign.
