Omoyele Sowore, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has accused former Labour Party presidential running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed of knowing about what he described as alleged deception surrounding Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Sowore made the allegation on Monday, September 7, 2026, in a post on his X account while reacting to comments attributed to Datti about Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and other Nigerian politicians.
According to Sowore, Datti was closely involved with Obi during the 2023 presidential campaign and therefore could not claim ignorance of issues surrounding the former Labour Party candidate. He alleged that Datti was aware of what he considered serious problems with Obi’s political image and candidacy at the time.
Sowore also brought up the 2023 signing of the Peace Accord involving presidential candidates ahead of the election. He recalled sitting close to Datti during the event and said he observed the former Labour Party running mate showing support towards President Bola Tinubu.
The AAC candidate further claimed that he raised concerns about the relationship between Obi, Datti and Tinubu during the 2023 election period. He said his position was rejected by supporters of Obi and Datti at the time.
Sowore now maintains that subsequent political developments have given his earlier claims greater relevance. He suggested that the public should pay closer attention to the political history and relationships of those seeking public office ahead of the 2027 general election.
The latest exchange comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue to intensify, with opposition figures increasingly questioning the records, alliances and previous actions of rival politicians.
Sowore is expected to contest the 2027 presidential election on the AAC platform, while Peter Obi is preparing to contest under the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Datti, who was Obi’s running mate in the 2023 election, has also recently criticised several opposition politicians and questioned their ability to bring meaningful change to Nigeria.
Sowore’s latest comments are allegations and political opinions. They do not by themselves establish that Datti knowingly participated in any deception or that Obi was involved in wrongdoing.
