2027: Obi’s Presence at Makinde’s Campaign Launch Makes Political History – APM

The Allied Peoples Movement, APM, has described Peter Obi’s appearance at the launch of Seyi Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja as an unusual political moment that could be remembered in Nigeria’s political history.

Anthony Ehilebo, Special Adviser on Media and Digital Media Communication to Makinde, the APM presidential candidate, made this known on Tuesday during an interview with Channels Television.

Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, had attended the inauguration of Makinde’s campaign office in Abuja on Monday, where he called on political leaders and opposition groups to work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ehilebo said Obi’s decision to attend the event was a reflection of the growing political attention around Makinde and his record in Oyo State.

He said the large number of people who attended the event also showed the level of support and goodwill Makinde had built during his time as governor of Oyo State.

According to Ehilebo, many Nigerians in other states would be pleased if their governors were able to achieve even part of what Makinde has accomplished in Oyo.

He also recalled that his relationship with Makinde’s political vision had existed before the current political developments. Ehilebo said an APC member once referred to a post he made several years ago in which he expressed support for the idea of Makinde becoming Nigeria’s president.

He noted that the earlier comment had now taken on a different meaning following the current political developments and Makinde’s emergence as the APM presidential candidate.

Ehilebo said the attendance of another presidential candidate at the opening of Makinde’s campaign office was unusual and showed the level of political interest surrounding the Oyo governor.

He added that the development could become one of the notable moments of the 2027 election season because of the presence of political figures from different camps.

The APM aide also spoke about the crowd at the campaign office inauguration, saying the turnout showed that Makinde had attracted support beyond Oyo State.

He maintained that the governor’s performance in Oyo had contributed to the goodwill being expressed by people outside the state.

Makinde is seeking the presidency under the APM ahead of the 2027 general election, while Obi is preparing to contest under the NDC.

Their appearance together at the campaign office launch has attracted attention as political parties and their candidates continue to position themselves ahead of the next presidential election.

The development comes at a time when opposition politicians are increasingly discussing cooperation and the possibility of working together to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
