The former Rivers State governor said backing Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election did not mean he had left his political party or supported efforts to prevent other political parties from presenting candidates for the election.

His comments came after APC governors, led by their chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, rejected any alliance that could weaken Tinubu’s re-election campaign or affect APC candidates contesting various positions.

Wike said the governors should deal with their political challenges directly instead of linking them to the President. He described their approach as political laziness and argued that local political problems should not be blamed on Tinubu.

The FCT minister also said disagreements over his political decisions were not new. He recalled that some people had opposed his appointment as FCT minister, just as he faced criticism while serving as governor of Rivers State.

According to Wike, the controversy surrounding his political activities had continued across different stages of his career and was not caused by his decision to support Tinubu.

He further said he had access to political information that some of his critics did not have. Wike argued that those questioning his decisions mpnot be interpreted as an attempt to stop other parties or political groups from participating in the 2027 elections.
