The campaign council is chaired by Senator Andrew Uchendu, while Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo has been appointed as its Director-General.

The inauguration took place in Port Harcourt on Monday, October 26, 2026, with the state chairman of the party, Chief Chukwudi Dimkpa, urging members to carry out their duties with dedication and responsibility.

Dimkpa charged the members to work in line with the party’s constitution, the responsibilities assigned to them and the laws of Nigeria.

He also formally transferred the responsibility for coordinating and executing the party’s governorship campaign in Rivers State to the council, under the leadership of Uchendu and Akarolo.

The ADC chairman urged the team to work together, maintain discipline and focus on achieving the party’s objectives ahead of the election. He added that the campaign council would operate under the general authority and policy direction of the state party leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Uchendu criticised the political situation in Rivers State, accusing some influential politicians of turning the state into a battleground for personal interests.

He said the ADC intended to free the state from political control by powerful individuals and restore effective governance for the benefit of residents.

The former senator alleged that governance had suffered because of the prolonged political conflict involving the executive and legislative arms of government. He also accused the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of failing to address the state’s challenges.

According to Uchendu, the political disagreements have affected essential public services, including healthcare, education, electricity, road infrastructure and access to clean water.

He claimed that some outstanding hospital bills inherited from previous administrations had remained unsettled, making it difficult for some mothers and infants to access basic medical care.

Uchendu also alleged that schools across the state had been neglected, leaving some pupils without adequate classroom facilities.

He expressed concern that Rivers State, despite its oil wealth and contribution to the country’s economy, had failed to provide residents with basic amenities and better living conditions.

The ADC campaign council chairman blamed the situation on political disagreements and the struggle for control of the state, arguing that the interests of ordinary residents had been pushed aside.

He further accused the current administration of failing to protect the state’s political independence, warning that residents could face another four years of poor governance if the situation continued.

Uchendu said the ADC was determined to restore stability and ensure that the three arms of government operated independently and carried out their constitutional responsibilities.

He explained that the party wanted the executive, legislature and judiciary to serve the interests of the people rather than those of individual politicians.

The campaign council chairman said the party’s major responsibility was to recover the state from what he described as the influence of political godfathers and rebuild it for the benefit of present and future generations.

He urged members of the newly inaugurated council to take the party’s message to communities across all 23 local government areas of Rivers State.

Uchendu also called for a peaceful campaign focused on issues affecting residents, rather than personal attacks or violence.

He said the ADC would work towards bringing together people from different ethnic groups in the state, adding that unity would be necessary to achieve its political goals.

The party, he said, would pursue an inclusive system of government that gives residents a sense of belonging and ensures that public resources are used to improve their lives.

Uchendu further stressed the need for a credible electoral process in which every vote cast during the forthcoming election would be counted.

The inauguration marks the beginning of the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State, as the party seeks to present itself as an alternative to the current political leadership.
