A former chairman of Anka Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sharu Anka, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing unresolved internal disputes and alleged unfair treatment within his former party.
Anka announced his resignation in a letter dated Tuesday, explaining that persistent disagreements, unequal opportunities and a lack of unity among APC leaders had influenced his decision to leave.
The former council chairman said he could no longer remain in a party where he believed injustice and the denial of equal opportunities had become major obstacles to its effective administration.
He also criticised the party’s internal leadership structure, alleging that some members’ contributions were overlooked while a small group exercised considerable influence over its affairs.
Anka accused certain factions within the APC of turning the party into an organisation dominated by personal relationships and the interests of family members and close associates, rather than providing a fair platform for all members.
He further expressed concern about what he described as a failure to recognise the efforts of party members, arguing that the situation had made it increasingly difficult for him to continue working within the APC.
The former council chairman disclosed that his political supporters across Zamfara State had also joined him in moving to the ADC.
Anka is a grassroots politician who served two terms as chairman of Anka Local Government Area. He also served as a commissioner on four occasions, overseeing different ministries under successive administrations in Zamfara State.
His defection comes amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as politicians continue to review their party affiliations and political alliances.
