Police Nab 10 Suspects Over Attempted Assassination of Ondo Monarch

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested ten men in connection with a violent robbery and assassination attempt on the traditional ruler of Igoba community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The suspects reportedly stormed the community late on Thursday night, attacking residents and stealing valuables at gunpoint. Several people were injured during the attack, and the assailants allegedly advanced to the palace of Oba Adinlewa John in an attempt to kill him.

The monarch was said to have escaped unhurt despite the assault.Following a distress call, the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, ordered immediate deployment of tactical teams to the scene.

The operation, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, resulted in the arrest of ten suspects believed to be involved in the attack.During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted their roles in the incident.

Weapons recovered from them included two locally made pistols, a single-barrel gun, live ammunition, machetes, knives, and charms used in the operation.

The police confirmed that investigation is ongoing and that all the arrested suspects will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.
