The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the rehabilitation of 73 Government Secondary Schools across Abuja as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving public infrastructure and access to quality education.
Wike made the announcement on Tuesday during the official flag-off of the 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road rehabilitation from Kado Village to Dei-Dei. He explained that the ongoing projects reflect the federal government’s commitment to transforming education and road infrastructure in the FCT.
According to him, out of 103 secondary schools in Abuja, 73 are currently under renovation, while additional projects are expected to commence soon.The Minister said the Old Keffi Road project was approved by President Tinubu to ease traffic congestion and improve economic activities in surrounding communities.
He recalled that the rehabilitation of Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 roads was among the first emergency projects approved by the President in 2023, adding that the Old Keffi Road rehabilitation fulfills a promise made to residents during the commissioning of the Saburi roads.
Wike disclosed that Lubrik Construction Company, which handled the Saburi project, has also been awarded the Old Keffi Road contract based on the quality of its previous work and technical capacity. He commended the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman, Hon.
Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for consistently advocating for community-focused development projects and urged residents to continue supporting leaders who work for their welfare.
The Minister warned residents not to be misled by politicians who failed to deliver in the past, urging them to stand by the Tinubu administration as it continues to implement developmental programs.
He also revealed that the FCT Administration has planned 27 project flag-offs across the territory, describing it as an unprecedented step in boosting infrastructure growth.
Wike instructed the construction company to employ local residents, including youths and women, to ensure that communities benefit economically from the project.In her remarks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr.
Mariya Mahmoud, praised President Tinubu for his support toward infrastructure renewal and described the Old Keffi Road as a vital link that connects several communities, reduces travel time, and promotes economic activities.
She also commended Wike for his leadership and commitment to expanding development across the FCT.
