Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that Abuja will witness an extensive infrastructure transformation in 2026, describing it as a year that will redefine development within the capital city.
He made the statement during the official flag-off of the construction of Collector Road CN2, Emmanuel I. Ogala Street, from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), including Road ILS 5 in the Katampe District on Thursday.
Wike explained that the administration is preparing for a large-scale development drive across key parts of the city, marking Abuja’s 50th anniversary in February with visible improvements in road networks and urban infrastructure.
He assured residents that the projects planned for 2026 will surpass anything the city has experienced in its five decades of existence.Speaking on ongoing projects, Wike addressed challenges facing the Abuja Light Up initiative.
He said the project has faced cases of sabotage, including vandalism and disruptions aimed at slowing progress. The Minister stated that despite these setbacks, his team remains resolute in ensuring the success of the streetlight installation across the capital.
He mentioned that contractors working on the project, including CGC and CCECC, have been urged to remain focused and continue their work despite attempts to derail progress. According to him, the project to light up the entire city remains a top priority for his administration.
Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration is determined to overcome all obstacles and deliver projects that will make Abuja brighter, safer, and more developed in the coming year.
