The Nigerian Air Force has clarified why one of its C-130 aircraft made an unexpected landing in Burkina Faso, saying it was a precaution due to a technical problem detected shortly after leaving Lagos on December 8, 2025. The aircraft, which was on its way to Portugal, landed safely in Bobo-Dioulasso, the closest airfield, following standard aviation and safety procedures.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Air Force, stated that all personnel on board are safe and are receiving proper care from Burkinabe authorities. The Air Force confirmed that the crew diverted to the nearest airfield to prevent potential risks, in line with international aviation protocols.
The aircraft carried eleven personnel, including crew members and military staff. The Nigerian Air Force added that plans are being made to resume the mission as originally scheduled. The service also assured the public that it remains committed to operational and safety standards while performing its constitutional duties.
The clarification comes after reports from Burkina Faso suggested that the aircraft had violated the country’s airspace and was forced to land. The Nigerian Air Force’s statement seeks to clear any misunderstanding, explaining that the landing was entirely precautionary and not a breach of international rules.
