Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has shared over 2,000 bags of rice and other support items with residents of the district as part of her Christmas outreach. The exercise took place across Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okene, Okehi, and Ogori-Magongo local government areas.
The distribution was announced in a statement released on Wednesday by her media aide, Mike Idoko. According to the statement, the outreach was organised to help ease the burden of rising food prices and allow families to celebrate the festive period with less strain.
The rice distribution was carried out at multiple locations at the same time and covered various groups, including women associations, youth groups, religious bodies, elderly residents, and other vulnerable people within the district. Each beneficiary received a 25kg bag of rice as part of the support.
During the outreach, the senator explained that the initiative was part of her responsibility to support her constituents beyond legislative duties. She noted that leadership should reflect in actions that improve the daily lives of the people, especially during periods of economic pressure.
Community leaders who monitored the exercise described it as one of the largest Christmas food distributions recorded in the area. They said the quantity and wide coverage showed concern for people at the grassroots level.
Residents who received the items expressed appreciation, describing the support as timely and helpful. Many offered prayers for the senator and praised the gesture as a show of care for the people.
The Christmas outreach adds to other projects carried out by Akpoti-Uduaghan in Kogi Central, including health programmes, education support, water projects, solar-powered facilities, and initiatives aimed at empowering women and youths across the district.
