2027: Kano Gov Yusuf Names Running Mate for 2027 Poll

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has retained his deputy, Murtala Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, confirming that the pair will seek a second term together under the same ticket.

The announcement was made on Monday through a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, after Yusuf met with federal political appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

According to the statement, the governor based his decision on Garo’s loyalty, commitment and contribution to the administration since assuming office as deputy governor. Yusuf said he remained satisfied with Garo’s performance and believed he had played an important role in supporting the government’s programmes and policies.

The governor also expressed confidence in his deputy, describing him as a dependable partner who has continued to work closely with the administration in delivering projects and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents across Kano State.

Yusuf said the decision was taken after reviewing the deputy governor’s service and his role in advancing the administration’s development plans. He added that retaining Garo would provide continuity as the government prepares for another election cycle.

The governor also appealed to party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united and work together as the administration builds on its achievements ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement comes as political parties across the country continue to make preparations for the 2027 general election, with several governors and political leaders beginning to unveil their strategies and key decisions ahead of the polls.
