Fubara Promises More Projects Before 2027 Exit

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said his administration will continue to provide key infrastructure and improve public services despite the limited time remaining before the end of his tenure in 2027.

Fubara made this known on Tuesday while commissioning the newly completed 12.1-kilometre Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The governor said the remaining period of his administration would not prevent it from addressing important needs across the state. He explained that governance was about improving people’s lives and providing basic services, even when it was impossible for any government to solve every problem.

Fubara, who has already announced that he would not seek re-election in 2027, said he remained focused on completing projects that could improve the lives of residents before leaving office.

He expressed confidence that projects started by his administration but not completed before his exit would be continued by the next government.

Speaking about the newly opened road, the governor said the project would improve movement, support businesses and contribute to better security in Etche. He also said his administration would consider extending the road to Ndashi community.

Fubara further promised to complete the General Hospital project in Etche, saying healthcare would remain a priority for his administration despite the short period left in office.

He disclosed that the government had already started rehabilitation and reconstruction work on zonal hospitals in different parts of Rivers State. Hospitals in Bori, Omoku and Degema were either completed or close to completion, while Etche remained one of the areas requiring more attention.

The governor assured residents that a standard hospital would be provided to serve people in Etche and Omuma before his administration leaves office.

He also responded to the request for a road linking the area to Ndashi, saying the government would examine the request and take appropriate action.

Fubara said the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road was particularly important because its construction began in 2024, at a time when his administration was facing serious challenges. Despite those difficulties, he said work continued until the project was delivered.

The governor described the road as an investment that would remain useful to the people of Etche for years. He thanked residents of the area for their support and praised the local government leadership for efforts to improve electricity, street lighting and security.

He also expressed confidence that his successor would complete projects that could not be finished before the end of his administration.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, said the new road connects Egwi, Afara and Mba communities with the local government headquarters at Okehi.

According to him, the project includes 10.2 kilometres of drainage, culverts, road shoulders and other supporting infrastructure.

Nwofor said the contract was awarded on October 29, 2024, and completed within the planned period.

The governor said his administration would continue working on projects and services that could bring lasting improvements to communities across Rivers State before the end of its tenure.
