The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, will lose the 2027 presidential election regardless of the people it selects for its campaign team.
The party’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, made the statement on Sunday while reacting to the APC’s recently announced 2027 presidential campaign council.
Agada said the presence of wealthy and influential Nigerians in the APC campaign structure would not automatically translate into electoral success. He argued that the decision in the 2027 election would ultimately rest with Nigerian voters.
He said the NDC was not concerned about the composition of the APC campaign team and claimed that even appointing American billionaire Elon Musk as its campaign Director-General would not prevent the opposition party from defeating the ruling party.
Agada also accused the APC-led Federal Government of worsening the economic situation of Nigerians since taking office. He claimed that millions of Nigerians had been pushed into poverty under the current administration.
According to him, the economic difficulties facing ordinary citizens would play an important role in how they vote in the 2027 election.
He argued that Nigerians struggling with the high cost of living would have the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction through their votes when the country goes to the polls.
The NDC spokesman also dismissed the influence of financial resources in determining the outcome of the election, saying the number of wealthy individuals backing a political party would not replace the support of ordinary voters.
The APC has yet to respond directly to Agada’s comments, but the ruling party has continued preparations for the 2027 general elections as political activities increase across the country.
The exchange comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with parties already putting campaign structures in place and seeking support from different groups across Nigeria.
